結論
- The growth of vertically propagating planetary scale Rossby waves does give rise to wave 'breaking' as indicated by the wrapping of PV contours
- The saturation of the primary Rosbby wave is not due to wave breaking. Rather, it is associated with wave-mean flow interactions wherein either critical surfaces or reflecting surfaces are created. The development of these features is associated with the development of closed (Eulerian) streamlines.
- Wave-wave interactions are quantitatively important. However, the most important wave-wave interactions involve wavenumbers 1 and 2, and these are not crucial for the 'breaking' signature.
